Created as a way to help foster the exploration, appreciation and conservation of the natural world, the Boardman River Nature Center has become a destination for the Grand Traverse community to nurture their connection to nature. Inside, the Boardman River Nature Center features an exhibit gallery, nature theater, and activity area for kids. Outside, there are native plant gardens, a demonstration wetland and access to hiking trails in the Natural Education Reserve. Nearly every natural cover type in the state is found in this reserve located along the Boardman River. Within the 505-acre tract are hiking trails through a bog, marsh, true swamp, level terrain, upland forest, pine forest, creek, river, and an active beaver pond. Nature themed programs for families, children and adults occur regularly on evenings and weekends at the Boardman River Nature Center. Custom programs are available for schools and groups as well. Only 3 miles from downtown Traverse City, the Nature Center is located at 1450 Cass Rd, TC, MI 49685 and is open to the public on Tuesday – Saturday from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. For more information, go to www.NatureisCalling.org or call 231-941-0960.
