State Park: Birding, Hike, History, Picnic, Walk
Spanning 82 acres surrounded by the wide open spaces of West Texas, the U.S. Army established this fort in 1855 to guard the San Antonio-El Paso Road. Today, Fort Lancaster State Historic Site contains the ruins of what once constituted a sizable military installation. The site offers an interpretive walking trail as well as a visitors center with exhibits and a gift shop. Self-guided tours of the fort are available along with picnic areas.
