Gorton Lake State Forest is comprised of 500 acres of reforestation land straddling the boundaries of Madison and Oneida counties in the towns of Brookfield and Sangerfield. Gorton Lake State Forest is contiguous to Bailey Lake State Forest which adjoins it to the east. Together these two forests offer over a thousand acres for public use. This State Forest is open to passive recreational pursuits such as hunting, hiking or other informal uses that require no designated facilities. There are no formal trail networks or support facilities associated with Gorton Lake State Forest. There is a section of designated snowmobile trail approximately one mile in length passing through the forest. This trail (corridor trail #7) is part of the state-wide snowmobile corridor trail system linking both private and public lands across New York.
