Gulf Islands National Seashore in Mississippi offers snowy-white beaches, sparkling blue waters, fertile coastal marshes, and dense maritime forests. Visitors can explore 19th century forts, enjoy shaded picnic areas, hike on winding nature trails, and camp in comfortable campgrounds. West Ship Island is the home of Fort Massachusetts, accessible by private boat or passenger ferry (seasonal). In addition, Horn and Petit Bois Islands located in Mississippi are federally designated wilderness areas. Nature, history, and recreational opportunities abound in this national treasure. The Mississippi District is open year-round. The William M. Colmer Visitor Center in the Davis Bayou Area is open daily from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
