Mary Jane Falls Trail begins on an abandoned road. The main trail is built up with rows of large rocks known as “rip-rap” to help prevent trail erosion. The trail travels for ¼ mile through tall ponderosa pines, white fir, aspen, and mountain-mahogany. The next 1/3 mile is a gradual ascent after which the trail begins a steep climb us a series of switchbacks and rock steps to the base of the falls. Two springs can be seen cascading down steep terraced cliff walls. The falls flow year round, but they are most spectacular in early spring when they are flowing at their peak. Early in the season water may be seen flowing over Big Falls in the distance from Mary Jane Falls Trail. Use caution as you explore around Marry Jane Falls. Watch for falling ice in winter and early spring. In any season the rocks at the base of the falls may be wet and slippery.
Directions:
On State Route 157, travel 2 miles west of Kyle Guard Station to where the highway sharply bends at the junction with Echo Road. Turn right onto Echo Road and travel 1/3 mile. At the fork in the road, proceed left onto the secondary road. Continue on this road 1/3 mile, until it ends at the parking lot for Mary Jane Falls and Trail Canyon trailheads.
