509 acres – The Sheyenne River state forest is located 1 mile south east of Fort Ransom along the Sheyenne River National Scenic Byway. This forest is located in the valley of the Sheyenne River, which wanders across half of North Dakota. The forest is open to all types of recreation including hiking, snowshoeing, ungroomed cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and hunting. Primitive camping with fire grates are available. There is no camping fee. In 1984, a one mile segment of the nature hiking trail was certified as part of the National North Country Trail.
