This 744 acre state forest is named for the nearby sawmill and small settlement that once existed along the East Branch of Fish Creek. Excellent trout fishing opportunities await fishermen on both Powlish Brook and on Fish Creek and the Rome reservoir downstream. Other outdoor recreational opportunities include white-tailed deer and small game hunting, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, and seasonal hiking and biking. The 0.8 mile long Swancott Mill public forest access road provides vehicular access to the interior of this state forest. Additional trails have motor vehicle access for people with disabilities by permit.
